Dino Risi

Dino Risi (1916–2008) was an Italian director, one of the central figures of the commedia all'italiana. He trained as a doctor and a psychiatrist before turning to filmmaking, and his most celebrated work — sharp, sometimes despairing comedies of postwar Italian life — combined a clinician's eye with a strong popular sensibility. His acclaimed films include Poveri ma Belli, Una Vita Difficile, Il Sorpasso (The Easy Life), I Mostri, Profumo di Donna (Scent of a Woman), In Nome del Popolo Italiano, and Il Giovedì.
