Dimitri Kirsanoff

Dimitri Kirsanoff (1899–1957) was an Estonian-French director, regarded as one of the most distinctive figures of late-silent French avant-garde cinema. Born in Dorpat (Tartu), he emigrated to Paris after the Russian Revolution and made his name with the medium-length silent feature Ménilmontant, often cited as one of the great accomplishments of European silent cinema. His acclaimed films include Ménilmontant, Brumes d'Automne, Rapt, and Quartier sans Soleil.
