David Cronenberg
David Cronenberg (born 1943) is a Canadian director and screenwriter, the central figure of what came to be called body horror. Self-taught in filmmaking and a literature graduate of the University of Toronto, he developed a clinical, almost essayistic engagement with mutation, illness, technology, and desire that runs through more than twenty features. His later work has moved away from explicit horror into a more sombre series of literary and political adaptations. His acclaimed films include Shivers, The Brood, Videodrome, The Fly, Dead Ringers, Naked Lunch, Crash, A History of Violence, and Eastern Promises.
