Dai Sijie
Dai Sijie (born 1954) is a Chinese-French director, screenwriter, and novelist. He spent his youth as a sent-down student during the Cultural Revolution before emigrating to France and training at IDHEC. His features and novels frequently draw on his own experience of the Cultural Revolution and the encounter with European literature in rural China. His acclaimed films include China, My Sorrow, Le Mangeur de Lune, The Eleventh Child, Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress, The Botanist's Daughters, and Once on a Moonless Night.
