Cristian Mungiu
Cristian Mungiu (born 1968) is a Romanian director and screenwriter, the most internationally prominent figure of the Romanian New Wave that emerged in the mid-2000s. He worked as a journalist and English teacher before training at the National University of Theatre and Film in Bucharest, and his features are built around long takes, naturalistic performance, and morally weighted dramatic situations set in late- and post-Ceaușescu Romania. His acclaimed films include Occident, 4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days (which won the Palme d'Or at Cannes in 2007), Tales from the Golden Age, Beyond the Hills, Graduation, and R.M.N.
