Cristi Puiu

Cristi Puiu (born 1967) is a Romanian director and screenwriter, the central figure of the Romanian New Wave and one of the most internationally celebrated voices in contemporary European cinema. Trained in painting in Geneva, he established his reputation with the feature Stuff and Dough and then with The Death of Mr. Lazarescu, a near-real-time observational drama about a dying old man in the Romanian public health system. His acclaimed films include Stuff and Dough, The Death of Mr. Lazarescu, Aurora, Three Exercises of Interpretation, Sieranevada, and Malmkrog.
