Corneliu Porumboiu
Corneliu Porumboiu (born 1975) is a Romanian director and screenwriter, one of the central figures of the Romanian New Wave that emerged in the mid-2000s. Trained at the University of Theatre and Film I.L. Caragiale in Bucharest, he made his feature debut at thirty with 12:08 East of Bucharest, a deadpan small-town comedy about the 1989 Romanian Revolution that won the Caméra d'Or at Cannes. His later work has refined a distinctive deadpan style built around language, philosophy, and the absurd procedural texture of Romanian institutions. His acclaimed films include 12:08 East of Bucharest, Police, Adjective, When Evening Falls on Bucharest, The Treasure, Infinite Football, and The Whistlers.
