Claude Chabrol
Claude Chabrol (1930–2010) was a French director and screenwriter, one of the founders of the French New Wave alongside his Cahiers du Cinéma colleagues Truffaut, Godard, and Rohmer. After establishing himself early with Le Beau Serge and Les Cousins, he went on to direct more than fifty features over half a century, most of them ironic, finely observed thrillers about the French provincial bourgeoisie. He is often described as the French Hitchcock for his methodical attention to bourgeois rituals and undercurrent of violence. His acclaimed films include Le Beau Serge, Les Cousins, Les Bonnes Femmes, La Femme Infidèle, Le Boucher, Story of Women, and La Cérémonie.
