Claude Berri

Claude Berri (1934–2009) was a French director, screenwriter, and producer who became one of the most powerful figures in postwar French cinema as both filmmaker and industry mogul. After autobiographical features in the 1960s and 70s drawing on his Polish-Jewish childhood and his career as a furrier, he established himself as a producer-director of mainstream French features rooted in literary adaptation. He was also a major producer of work by other directors, including the Astérix franchise. His acclaimed films include The Two of Us, Le Sex Shop, One Wild Moment, Tchao Pantin, Jean de Florette, Manon des Sources, Uranus, and The Housekeeper.
