Claire Denis
Claire Denis (born 1946) is a French director and screenwriter, one of the most internationally celebrated figures in contemporary European cinema. Raised in several African countries where her father worked as a French colonial administrator, she trained at IDHEC and worked as an assistant to Wim Wenders and Jim Jarmusch before establishing her own career with Chocolat. Her features are characterized by sensual, often elliptical handling of bodies, music, and post-colonial geography. Her acclaimed films include Chocolat, Nénette and Boni, Beau Travail, Trouble Every Day, 35 Shots of Rum, White Material, Let the Sunshine In, and High Life.
