Chris Marker
Chris Marker (1921–2012) was a French director, writer, photographer, and multimedia artist who shaped the modern essay-film tradition. A polymath who began as a journalist and critic, he produced features, shorts, photographic books, and later interactive installations that combined personal memoir with political reportage and meditations on memory, time, and image. His best-known feature La Jetée is constructed almost entirely of still photographs. His acclaimed films include Letter from Siberia, La Jetée, Le Joli Mai, Sans Soleil, A.K., The Last Bolshevik, and Level Five.
