Chang Cheh
Chang Cheh (1923–2002) was a Chinese director, screenwriter, and producer, one of the most important figures in the history of Hong Kong martial-arts cinema. The longtime in-house director at Shaw Brothers Studio, he directed more than ninety features and is credited with introducing a darker, more masculine sensibility into Hong Kong kung-fu cinema, with extended brutal action scenes and an emphasis on male brotherhood. His acclaimed films include One-Armed Swordsman, Golden Swallow, The Boxer from Shantung, Five Deadly Venoms, Crippled Avengers, The Five Venoms, and Ten Tigers of Kwangtung.
