Chan-wook Park
Park Chan-wook (born 1963) is a South Korean director and screenwriter, one of the central figures of the New Korean Cinema. After studying philosophy and working as a film critic, he established himself in the early 2000s with the genre-bending Vengeance Trilogy, which combined Greek-tragic structures, baroque violence, and a stylized visual sense honed across an unusually wide range of formats. His later work has continued to fuse formal precision with intense emotional and political content. His acclaimed films include Joint Security Area, Oldboy, Lady Vengeance, Thirst, Stoker, The Handmaiden, and Decision to Leave.
