Cecil B. DeMille
Cecil B. DeMille (1881–1959) was an American director and producer regarded as one of the founding figures of Hollywood as an industry and an art form. He directed his first feature in 1914 and continued working at the centre of commercial American cinema for more than four decades. He specialized increasingly in large-scale historical and biblical epics that combined spectacular set pieces, mass casting, and reverently moralistic narration. His acclaimed films include The Squaw Man, The Cheat, Male and Female, The Ten Commandments (1923), The King of Kings, Cleopatra, The Plainsman, Samson and Delilah, The Greatest Show on Earth (which won the Academy Award for Best Picture), and The Ten Commandments (1956).
