Basil Dearden, Michael Relph
Basil Dearden (1911–1971) and Michael Relph (1915–2004) were a British director-producer team whose collaborations from the late 1940s through the 1960s formed one of the most consistent partnerships in British studio cinema. They had both come up at Ealing Studios — Dearden as a director and Relph as an art director — and after Ealing's wind-down they continued working together, often pursuing socially engaged material that addressed taboo or controversial subjects of postwar British life. Their acclaimed films include The Blue Lamp, Sapphire, Victim, Life for Ruth, The League of Gentlemen, Khartoum, and Only When I Larf.
