Albert Maysles, David Maysles

Albert Maysles (1926–2015) and David Maysles (1931–1987) were American brothers and pioneering practitioners of direct-cinema observational documentary. They began their careers in the late 1950s and became major figures in the so-called direct cinema movement, working without narration, scripted commentary, or staged interviews. Their work — particularly with collaborator Charlotte Zwerin — defined the modern American observational documentary feature. Their acclaimed films include Salesman, Gimme Shelter, Grey Gardens, Christo's Valley Curtain, and Running Fence.
